Prostate Cancer

In recent years, several new treatments for prostate cancer have been developed which have improved our treatment options and the outlook for patients. The following new drugs are available :

Abiraterone (also known as Zytiga ®)  -  this is a new type of hormone therapy for men whose prostate cancer has spread to other parts of the body (advanced prostate cancer) and which is no longer responding to other types of hormone therapy or chemotherapy. Abiraterone can also be useful and effective in men who haven’t yet received  any chemotherapy.

Enzalutamide (also known as Xtandi ®)  -  this is also a new type of hormone therapy for men with advanced prostate cancer that is no longer responding to conventional hormone therapy or chemotherapy. Enzalutamide is also effective in men who haven’t received  any chemotherapy.

Cabazitaxel (also known Jevtana ®)  -  a new type of chemotherapy for men with advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to hormone therapy and the conventional chemotherapy drug docetaxel (Taxotere ®).

Radium-223 (also known Xofigo ®)  -  a new radionuclide treatment for men who have advanced, symptomatic prostate cancer that has spread to the bones and has also stopped responding to hormone treatments.
